Vestment Fundraising
St Mary’s owns a set vestments, however they’re no longer for for use: from age, and especially being left hanging unprotected in a damp church for many years, they are damaged beyond repair and, when we did look at a repair, they began to disintegrate. The same with our liturgical communion linen.
In order to kick start our new beginning with a new priest our aim is to present the gift of a new set of vestments for the church and for the new priest to wear them.
Our hope is that we are able to use the gifts that each one of us has been given to raise money for new vestments – for the church to symbolise this exciting new beginning.
Paul Bourne, who grew-up in the church, has agreed to use his talents and is honoured to be asked to make some lovely, dry cleanable vestments (which will be wrapped and protected from the damp elements of the church) for St Mary’s.
Our target is £5,000. It sounds a lot, and a bit daunting, but is perfectly doable.
At our Family Service in January 2023 the entire congregation was asked to come up with some fundraising activities which could take place over the coming months. These suggestions have been distilled in to the following dates for your diaries:
- Saturday 4th February, 6pm – Cheese, Cracker, Wine, and Quiz Evening
- Saturday 4th March, 6pm – ‘St Mary Berry’ Pudding Evening and Bake Off
- Sunday 5th March, 4pm – Pet Service
- Saturday 1st April, 12:30pm – 2:30pm – Parish Fete
Sunday 8th January – Family Service
To launch the fundraising our Lead Minister, Hannah Robinson, was on the receiving end of a cream-pie in the middle of the service. She even finished delivering her sermon with some of the ‘cream’ still in situ!
With the generosity of everyone present at the service, we’ve already raised £475 towards the new vestments!
Saturday 4th February – Cheese, Cracker, Wine and Quiz Evening
Thank you to every one who attended this great event. We all had huge fun, and congratulations to the team from Holy Trinity – aptly named ‘3+’ – on their win!
Thanks to everyone’s generosity on the night, we raised another £206 toward the Vestment Fund! 👏
We’ll see you all at 6pm on Saturday 4th March for ‘St Mary Berry’ – get your chef’s hats on! 🍰
